Producer for popular films such as Dredd and The Grey, Adi Shankar is reportedly on Sony's shortlist to direct their R-rated Venom movie! Set for an October 5th, 2018 release date, the film currently lacks a director and ensemble cast, but it would seem that Sony are now kicking things into high gear.
Adi Shankar is well known for his knack to put a serious / dark toned spin on the various properties he grew up with. He created this Power Rangers short a while back, which received massive praise from its fan base.
He also produced a short film called Truth in Journalism and it seems as though the severely creepy tone of that film has sparked interest at Sony.
With a hefty R-rating rumored to be the direction Sony are taking with their Venom movie, it makes sense that they would approach Adi for the directorial position. Given his portfolio it seems as though he could put quite a dark and creepy spin on the Venom character and deliver an experience us Venom fans have been waiting so long for.
